4Cs

Diamond quality is defined by four key characteristics: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight. Together, these standards shape how each diamond is assessed, influencing not only its technical grade but how it looks, behaves, and distinguishes itself within a finished piece. No two diamonds are exactly alike.

Lab grown diamonds are chemically, optically, and physically identical to their mined counterparts. Whether formed in the earth or created in a laboratory, every diamond is evaluated against the same internationally accepted standards of quality.

cut

The most essential of the 4Cs, a diamond’s cut directly affects how it interacts with light. Cut does not refer to the shape of the stone, but to the precision of its proportions, symmetry, and polish. Only Triple Excellent (3X) diamonds make the cut at FacetsN, delivering consistently optimal light performance.

color

Color in diamonds is graded on a scale from D (completely colorless) to Z (noticeable yellow or brown). Even a faint tint can affect how efficiently light moves through the stone. FacetsN selects only diamonds in the D to F range, known as the colorless range.

carat

Carat weight measures a diamond’s mass, not its visual size alone. Two diamonds with the same carat weight can appear larger or smaller depending on how they are cut. FacetsN looks beyond weight to the actual dimensions of each stone, ensuring the right balance between size and proportion. This precision matters most when matching pairs, such as earrings, where millimeter measurements must align closely for visual symmetry. All diamonds of 0.50 carats and above are independently certified by the International Gemological Institute (IGI), with every measurement and characteristic documented in full detail.

clarity

Clarity refers to the presence of internal inclusions or external surface features, graded under 10× magnification. These characteristics form naturally during the diamond growth process — whether mined or lab-grown — because of the extreme heat and pressure required to create crystal structure. Even in controlled lab environments, subtle inclusions can occur.

The clarity scale runs from Flawless (no inclusions visible at 10×) down through Very, Very Slightly Included (VVS), Very Slightly Included (VS), Slightly Included (SI), and Included (I). Within each category, a “1” indicates the higher end of the grade and a “2” the lower end. FacetsN selects diamonds in the VVS1 to VS2 range, where inclusions are so minor they are invisible to the naked eye and have no impact on a diamond’s visual beauty.

+shape

Shape defines the outline of a diamond as viewed from above — round, oval, emerald, marquise, and beyond. In the past, shape options were restricted by the unpredictability of rough material. With lab-grown diamonds, that limitation no longer applies. Because they are grown from a renewable source, diamonds can be cut for design rather than yield.

This freedom opens the door to shapes that are rarer, bolder, and more tailored to modern expressions of individuality. The “N” in FacetsN represents more than our name: it reflects the countless facets within a diamond and the unlimited shape possibilities available without compromise. Shape becomes a matter of intention, not constraint. Whether classic or unconventional, every shape is chosen for precision, proportion, and the potential it unlocks in a final piece.
